Learning pathways
There are two learning pathways within MBO (Intermediate Vocational Education) in the Netherlands:

  • BOL: vocational training pathway (day school)
  • BBL: vocational assistance pathway (‘training on the job’)

You can choose between BOL and BBL for most of the courses on offer at HMC. Both diplomas are equivalent.

Forms of education
Full-time BOL (day school)
Students doing a BOL course will attend practical and theory lessons at school. The student will complete several work experience placements at a recognised training company, in order to gain practical experience.

BBL (training on the job)
Students will learn and work at the same time when they opt for a BBL course. The student must have a job at a recognised training company in order to be able to do a BBL course.

Levels
HMC offers MBO courses at levels 2, 3 and 4:

  • Level 2: basic vocational training (foundation vocational education)
  • Level 3: vocational training (secondary vocational education)
  • Level 4: middle management or specialist training (secondary vocational education)

Students will learn to carry out executive activities with courses at level 2. Students will learn to carry out activities completely independently at level 3. Students will learn to carry out activities with a broad deployability or specialisation completely independently at level 4. Attention is also devoted to starting a business and assisting/managing employees.
